BREAKING NEWS: Tejon Mountain Village and Frazier Park Estates Draft Environmental Impact Reports to be Released

FRAZIER PARK, Calif. (Tuesday, May 26, 12:25 p.m.)—Draft Environmental Impact Reports (DEIR) for the Tejon Mountain Village and Frazier Park Estates developments will be released this week and next week, respectively according to Kern County Planning Department Division Chief Lorelei Oviatt.

The DEIR for Tejon Mountain Village will be released on Friday, May 29 and the DEIR for Frazier Park Estates will be released on Friday, June 6. The documents will be available at the Kern County Planning Department website at http://www.co.kern.ca.us/planning/ upon their dates of release.

A 45-day public comment period for the Tejon Mountain Village DEIR closes on July 13, 2009, followed by a public hearing scheduled with the Kern County Planning Commission to receive comments on the document on August 13, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. or soon thereafter, Chambers of the Board of Supervisors, First Floor, Kern County Administrative Center, 1115 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California.

Tejon Mountain Village is proposed to include 3,450 residences ranging in lot sizes from 2,400 square feet to more than 20 acres each. Two 18-hole golf courses are planned, plus 160,000 square feet of commercial development including restaurants, retail stores and offices. Tejon Mountain Village is proposed to be built around Castac Lake, just east of Interstate 5 in Lebec, up the canyon and on the hillsides which drain into the lake.

The Frazier Park Estates developer previously submitted a DEIR which Kern County rejected and returned to the developer for rewrite in 2006 after public comments had raised numerous questions about the development's impact on water supply and the environment. The estimates for the number of units have ranged between 662 and 820 including residential and commercial facilities. Frazier Park Estates is proposed to be built on the land between Frazier Mountain Park Road to the north and the area beyond Frazier Mountain High School to the south.
