BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Marine Corps Big Rig Crashes in Gorman

FRAZIER PARK, Calif. (Thursday, May 28, 2009, 1:30 p.m.)—A United States Marine Corps big rig crashed on northbound Interstate 5, in Gorman just after 12:00 this afternoon, sending the driver to the hospital with major injuries.

According to CHP officers at the scene, reports began coming in just before noon, from motorists near Pyramid Lake saying the big rig was being driven erratically. Approximately twelve miles further north, the tractor-trailer truck left the roadway approximately 50 yards south of the Gorman exit sign, hitting the sign's large support pole and coming to rest in a precarious, near-rollover position off the shoulder of the roadway. When asked what cargo was on-board, officers said, “It’s empty.”

The driver was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia with "major injuries," according to officers on-scene. "He may have been experiencing a medical problem, we're not sure right now," one officer said.
