• Enjoy good conversation and a glass wine at the 2016 Writers Festival’s Wine and Cheese Reception to be held at the Frazier Park Library from 5–7 p.m. All writers, teachers, poets, journalists, screen writers and just plain scribblers are invited to come and mingle. • Time for the 3rd Annual Bee Happy Spring Boutique, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Falcon’s Nest (3216 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). Many unique items will be offered. Susan Thompson is the coordinator of this springtime event (661.432.0402).

• Ready for a trip back in time? Then you won’t want to miss the Frontier Army Days and Dragoon Living History Program at Fort Tejon, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Adults, $5; ages 7–12, $2; under 7, free. Families with children are $14.

• Grab a book! Kern County Library’s Summer Reading Challenge Kicks off today, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. There will be ice cream, a performance by The Bakersfield Jazz Singers, the CHP radar trailer, Smokey Bear, Hungry Valley critters, the Falcon Football team and much more. Kids get a free book for participating in the program which runs until July 31. Register at http://kerncountylibrary.org or the library.

• ‘Flint to Cartridge: 19th Century Firearms–Development and Innovation’ on historic firearms is a talk hosted by the Ridge Route Communities Museum, 4 p.m. John Harmon will also display antique guns; $5 for members, $8 for nonmembers; refreshments.

• The fun at Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School BBQ at 4 p.m. includes a performance by students and an enticing silent auction, long with the BBQ. The event takes place at the Pine Mountain Christian Community Church, 16301 Askin Dr., Pine Mtn. Village.

• Tejon Ranch hosts the Heart of the Mountain event for the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County, 5–9 p.m., $1,500 per table.

• El Tejon School’s Graduating Class will hold their dance at Camp St. Nicholas from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Monday, June 6

• Gorman School’s fourth and fifth graders go to the Student Living History Program at Fort Tejon today and tomorrow. They will explore life at an army post in the 1850’s.

• A new book club will meet at the Ridge Route Communities Museum at 5 p.m. (3515 Park Drive).

Tuesday, June 7

• The FMHS Senior Awards Ceremony will showcase the outstanding students of Frazier Mountain High School’s Class of 2016. The festivities begin at 6 p.m.
