‘Angel of the Mountain’ unveils plan to retire

“I’m retiring in December,” Anne Weber Burnaugh said quietly to the group of local volunteers and law enforcement officers who gathered last week at a meeting of the Mountain Communities Coalition Against Substance Abuse (McCASA).

She said she will continue her work with the McCASA group, but the meetings may only last to next fall when a federal Drug Free Communities grant runs out.

“I want this coalition to continue,” Weber Burnaugh said.

“We’re looking for other people to step up and to stay involved.”

For 21 years, as director of the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (FRC), Weber Burnaugh has helped thousands of people, especially young families and needy elders, by coordinating assistance such as food stamps, health care…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
