Bear facts win emergency solutions

In these days following the shooting of a 75-100 pound, 2-year-old black bear August 5 in the forest beyond upper Linden Drive in Pine Mountain, we learned California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wardens do not carry bear spray or less-than-lethal defensive tools. We’ve learned that records of bear attacks on humans since 2003 have not been published by CDFW, and we’ve been told that the Kern County District Attorney’s office has discouraged prosecution of bear feeding cases brought to them from CDFW.
