“Don’t leave mail in your outdoor mailboxes overnight,” Kern County Sheriff’s Sergeant David Kessler warned on Monday, March 12. He called The Mountain Enterprise to get the word out to Mountain Community residents as rapidly as possible. Mailbox burglars have been active here.

On February 28 the Lebec Post Office was broken into and the doors of four indoor boxes broken. On March 8 and March 12 mailboxes in Piñon Pines were hit by thieves. Lake of the Woods and Cuddy Valley have also been hit by mail thieves.

“Please tell your readers they should pick up their mail every day. Please ask everyone to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity and report anything to the sheriff’s department,” Kessler said.

Call 661.861.3110 to make a report.

Residents are also advised to monitor their bank statements and bills carefully, to confirm that their identities have not become vulnerable to criminal fraud.
