Color the Mountain Sign ups ‘til Sept. 12

Raising Funds to Raise Leaders

A healthy and enjoyable new event on the mountain has extended its registration deadline so more people will be able to join in. Registration will be taken until Friday, Sept. 12 for Color the Mountain, the fun 5K walk-run in Frazier Mountain Park that was such a hit last year.

Bright new colors and many other surprises are planned. Money raised helps develop the Mountain Youth Can Change Communities (MyC3) leadership camps for local youths.

The goal is to help young people live up to their dreams, by helping develop a clear sense of purpose about their own future, said Anne Weber Burnaugh of the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center in Frazier Park.

Confidence in personal goals is a strong deterrent to underage use of alcohol and drugs, Weber Burnaugh said.

This summer, 25 young people (most from the El Tejon Middle School) participated in the MyC3 Leadership Camp, made possible through Color the Mountain donations from last year.

The 2014 event will be September 20, 1-4 p.m. at Frazier Mountain Park.

The $30 registration includes an event T-shirt, wrist and headbands. Children 5 and under are free. Register online today at http://colorthemountain.com. Checks can be dropped at the MCFRC, 3015 Mt. Pinos Way, Suite 201, Frazier Park, CA 93225 or mailed to P.O. Box 1902, Frazier Park, CA 93225. Contact Miki Knutson at 661.245.4303, Monday-Wednesday, 9:15 a.m.-4 p.m. with questions.

This is part of the September 5, 2014 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
