The crowd was loud and wild and the basketball players were electrified to play the first Falcon basketball game of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The game was against the Maricopa Indians and was played in the FMHS gym.

Up first were the varsity girls who started the game with a quick 22 points in the first quarter of play, showing some incredible defense, keeping the Indians scoreless until the end of the quarter and ending at halftime with a score of 36-14.

During the second half the Falcons dominated the courts, Enterprise photo of Beans Morocco as the Grinch holding the Indians to a low score and picking up plenty of rebounds.

The final score of the game was 72-26, the Falcons towering over the Indians. Jessi Pilgram led the team with 16 points and 4 assists, followed by Angel McNeeley with 11 points and 5 assists.

“This was not our best and we can do better, but our season is going to be amazing,” said Heather Henderson, a varsity girls’ basketball player.

Next up was the varsity boys’ team. They showed great enthusiasm and skill, dramatically suppressing the Indians scoring. During the second quarter, the defense was on fire and would not let the Indians sink a ball at all, for a 40-4 score at the half.

This was followed by an even better and more exhilarating second half defensively. At the end of the game, the final score was 61-7, Falcons winning.

Julien Deveroux led the boys’ game with 18 points, followed by Shane Ryan with 12 points and 3 assists.

“We had a great game,” said Ryan, captain of the boys’ varsity team. “We need to work on our defense mainly and put a little bit more into our offense, but overall I’m very proud of our team.”

The next game will be away against Shafter, next Monday, Dec. 5. The month is also full of tournaments for Frazier Mountain High School. There will be a varsity boys’ tournament at Santa Clarita Christian from Dec. 1-3 and a varsity girls’ tournament at FMHS on Dec. 2 and 3. The next home game will be held in January.
