Equinox Celebration: Color bombs, drums, art and politics

The Autumn Equinox is the second day each year when light and dark balance. It was celebrated on September 22 at the base of Mount Piños —known to the Chumash as the Center of the World. Through that day and evening, about 100 people joined in at Camp Saint Nicholas to create art displays, music, plays, great food and color bomb explosions. Pint-size pink fairies and playful participants were coated in rainbow hues and smiles.

Left: These Tears Will Bring You Back (2018) —Stephanie Darling’s oil on canvas was one of the Equinox Gallery offerings. As the sun set and the moon rose, an evening drum circle gathered in a unifying spirit of celebration.

Elke Heitmeyer (in pink) and Victoria Hungerhurst (polka dots) were partners in coordinating the 10-hour celebration, spanning day and night.
