Kern County Supervisor David Couch is famous for his solemn, deadpan expression. But we’re told he got some off-Broadway training as the grand marshal of the Lilac Festival Parade this year, so the Mountain Memories Association (MMA) decided he might be ready for the bigtime.

Couch will be the Fiesta Days Parade Grand Marshal this Saturday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. Get there early, get a good spot to watch the fun along Mt. Pinos Way, and send your well-focused photos of him to Editor@MountainEnterprise.com. The person who gets a shot of the silliest, happiest Supervisor Couch grin will win a prize.

Kip Moné, ace pilot from Lockwood Valley, turned 90 years old in March and has been named Honorary Mayor for the 46th Annual Fiesta Days. “We grow them strong, long-lived and handsome on the mountain,” an AARP member explains.

And see the ad on page 7. MMA is asking for last-minute volunteers to help. –P. Hedlund
