Fire season strikes early in PMC and on Grapevine

Two lanes of the northbound Interstate 5 were closed Monday, Apr. 15 about 9:20 p.m. when a big rig’s burning brakes lit a one-acre wildfire that rushed up hills about a mile south of the Grapevine exit. Firefighters from Tejon Ranch, Lebec and Frazier Park stations put out the wildfire and saved the trailer. The tractor was destroyed, but the driver escaped.

At 2:30 a.m. that same night, a couple in the Pine Mountain community had to flee their burning home on Cedarwood Drive. No one was injured, Kern County firefighters report, but the couple were left without even shoes, neighbors said.
