Fires on ridge north of Pine Mountain Club being handled by firefighters

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 5:25 p.m.)—Fires ignited by lightning this afternoon on the ridge north of Pine Mountain Club (San Emigdio Mountain) are being engaged under the watchful eye of U.S. Forest Service firefighters. United States Forest Service Wildland Firefighting Division Chief John Abell told The Mountain Enterprise “The fires are in single trees, there is a little bit of ground fire and there is no spread.” Crews should be able to have them under control by 8 or 9 p.m. “We appreciate everybody in the community watching out for things,” he said. “It’s also helpful if when you call you could tell the dispatcher your location and the direction where you are seeing the fire, so they can know whether it’s the same fire or a new one.” Abell said that helicopters will be in the area on Friday morning, checking to make sure nothing has flared up.
