Fireworks banned in all Kern County parks

Kern County Parks and Recreation Director Robert Lerude issued a statement on Tuesday, June 23 declaring “all legal fireworks (except authorized firework shows conducted by licensed Pyrotechnic Operators) [are]banned from Kern County Parks until further notice.”

The ban follows approval by the Board of Supervisors on June 23, 2015 of an ‘urgency ordinance’ banning fireworks in all Kern County parks due to drought conditions.

There is no place in the Mountain Communities where it is legal to light fireworks. Kern County Fire Department has been advertising its campaign slogan: “You Light It, We Write It—$1,500 fine.”
