Frazier Park water rate hike draws fire

Prop. 218 rate challenge planned for Dec. 15, 11 a.m.

Bernadette Sava moved to Frazier Park three years ago. She says she doesn’t like newspapers—“I stay away from the news”— but contacted The Mountain Enterprise last week because she says the Frazier Park Public Utility District (FPPUD) has not provided sufficient information to their customers about why water rates are going up 10% in January.

Sava said she is unaware of the rate study conducted by the Rural Community Assistance Corporation for FPPUD in 2016, the public meetings held that year, and even the Kern County Grand Jury report exactly two years ago this week. The grand jury explained that the rate study will help the district qualify for $16- to $20-million in grants. A goal is to repair…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
