High winds ripped down the large McDonald’s sign in Gorman Monday night, March 7. No injuries were reported.

Elena Abreu of Lockwood Valley took the above photo at the restaurant Tuesday morning.

Shanna Llewellyn of Frazier Park was called to document the damage caused by the wind. “They called me at 11 p.m. and I stayed until 1 a.m.,” Llewellyn said. She owns P.R.O.P. Photography. The sign was destroyed. A concrete picnic table and benches also appeared cracked in two when the sign fell.

Los Angeles County Fire Captain Kevin Waites of Station 77 in Gorman confirmed there were no injuries and advised McDonald’s to contact Southern California Edison to ensure there were no electrical hazards.

Earlier on Monday, strong winds caused a fire on a power pole, resulting in an outage affecting Cuddy Valley, Piñon Pines and Pine Mountain.

According to Vanessa McGrady of Southern California Edison, 2,647 customers lost power at 1:30 p.m. A reporter for The Mountain Enterprise noted that power was restored at 3:18 p.m. McGrady said four customers were without power until about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
