Hazardous materials spill on Interstate 5 near Fort Tejon

FORT TEJON, LEBEC (Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 4:50 p.m.)—Lanes 3 and 4 (two right slow lanes) are closed while crews wait for the hazmat team to arrive.

FORT TEJON, LEBEC (Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 4:24 p.m.)—The substance is reported to be leaking at a rate of about 1.5 gallons per minute. Crews are currently trying to stop the leak.

FORT TEJON, LEBEC (Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 4:14 p.m.)—A semi tractor trailer truck is leaking a hazardous substance on southbound Interstate 5 just north of Fort Tejon (also just north of El Tejon Middle School where classes let out around 3 p.m.). The truck is stopped on the right shoulder and CHP has the #4 (slow) lane closed. Early reports are that the substance is hydrochloric acid. A hazmat team has been dispatched to the scene and Environmental Health is enroute.
