Talented guitarist Brendan Coyle has been hoping to set up a jazz concert on the mountain for quite awhile. He’s starting 2013 with that goal checked off his list.

On Friday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. Coyle’s hypercool Jazzberry Sam and the Preserves will appear at the Work of HeArt Gallery in Frazier Park (behind Coffee Cantina). Jazzberry includes the mountain’s Wolf Finn on drums; Sam Novak, vocals; Brendan Black, alto sax; and Mark Gutierrez, bass.

Coyle grew up Pine Mountain playing the piano for 14 years before falling in love with the guitar. His band won the FMHS Battle of the Bands before he graduated in 2010. He started The Valera District with Wolf Finn (Pine Mountain) and Cherish Umholtz (Pi?on Pines) to play shows in Bakersfield, record a CD and compete in Fiesta Days’ 2011. Coyle’s plan is to earn a Masters Degree from USC, compose for films and to work as a session musician. -P. Hedlund
