FRAZIER PARK, CA (Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at 1:15 p.m.)—Northbound lanes of I-5 are open. Traffic is very slow as thousands try to reach their northern destinations. Southbound lanes are still closed at Grapevine.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at 11:25 a.m.)—Caltrans is recommending that northbound travelers who need to continue north of Kettleman City, take Highway 126 west from Castaic, to Highway 101 north, and then take Highway 41 at Atascadero to the northeast. This will put you back onto the northbound I-5 at Kettleman City.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at 9:50 a.m.)—Sources within CHP have indicated that the estimates for opening northbound and southbound I-5 lanes may not hold. It may take longer than estimated below.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at 9:41 a.m.)—The information now coming from the CHP Newhall Office is that residents and ‘businesses’ ARE being allowed to drive north on I-5 from Parker Road in Castaic if they can show ID with an address. Motorists will have to exit at Frazier Mountain Park Road or other exit as NO northbound vehicles are being allowed past the Fort Tejon exit.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at 8:35 a.m.)—Northbound I-5 was again closed this morning at Parker Road in Castaic. CHP estimates that two lanes of northbound I-5 will be opened again at around noon today. They estimate southbound will open at around 5 p.m. today. Currently southbound is closed at Grapevine. According to Newhall CHP Office, Frazier Park area residents are not being allowed onto I-5 north. No one is being allowed onto I-5 north until they open the freeway.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at 6:33 p.m.)—CHP reports that the northbound Interstate 5 closure has been moved to Frazier Mountain Park Road.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at 4:21)—All lanes of Interstate 5, northbound and southbound, are closed with hundreds of motorists stuck north and south of the mudslides. One preliminary estimate made at the scene was that it may take “a day” to get I-5 open. A northbound closure has been made at Parker Road in Castaic. A Southbound closure is in place at Grapevine. Southbound traffic may be able to turn back north, take Hwy 58 through Tehachapi to Hwy 14, then Avenue D west to I-5; or continue on Hwy 14 south through Palmdale to I-5 in Newhall. Northbound traffic trying to reach Frazier Park may try going back south to Hwy 14 and then north through Palmdale and Lancaster to Avenue D then west to Gorman Post Road (just before I-5), then under the I-5 overpass to Peace Valley Road and north to Lebec.

Southbound motorists trying to get to Pine Mountain Club or Frazier Park, who are stuck at Grapevine, may try taking Hwy 166 west through Maricopa to Cerro Noroeste Road, then turning left (east), then about 27 miles to Pine Mountain Club, then to Frazier Park.

Flash flood warnings for the Lebec-Frazier Park area were issued just before 3 p.m. Minutes later, reports of mudslides onto I-5 began.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at 3:21)—CHP and Kern County are reporting a ‘major mudslide’ has occurred on northbound I-5 just north of Fort Tejon. CHP has shut down north AND southbound lanes. Motorists have reported fast-moving water in flash-flood conditions and the roadway covered in mud.
