PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 11 a.m.)—Jerry Ferris of Mountain Communities Weather wrote this note: I was hurt and surprised this morning to learn the man killed in PMC [on Wednesday, see below] was Eugene Hattorff. I have known him, his children, his work colleague “Hat” for many years. We used to “unofficially” meet for lunch and breaks from work at the market when we all were doing that kind of work on the mountain.

Great guy, nice family. It always seems to be people that don’t deserve it. Here is a GoFundMe for him if you want to share.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at 4:58 p.m.)—It was a solemn scene where a man died this afternoon when his Isuzu pickup truck collided with a heavy utility truck on Mil Potrero Highway. The crash occurred just west of Ward Drive in Pine Mountain Club at about 3:40 p.m.

CHP reported that the two vehicles collided head-on and that the driver of the Isuzu pickup was ejected and lying in the roadway. A paramedic unit responded rapidly, but was not able to revive the driver.

Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane just below the top of the S-curves. In the utility truck there appeared to be a driver and one passenger. The fatally injured driver appeared to be the only occupant of the Isuzu pickup.
