Man killed by black bear in New Jersey

A Rutgers University senior was killed this week by a black bear on Sunday, Sept. 21 as he and four friends hiked in the Apshawa Preserve in northern New Jersey.

The New York Times reported on Monday, Sept. 22, that, according to police in the township of West Milford (about 40 miles from New York City) the five men “encountered a black bear, which began to follow them.”
