Two projects recently born in PMC had their public debut at a PMC Town Hall on Friday, July 14. The ‘Aging in Place’ and ‘Friendly Neighbors’ projects are coordinated by hardworking volunteers.

Michael Dulle, Michelle Throckmorton, Laurel Quinn Bates and Gladys Zobel are just some of those studying what can be done to assist elders and caregivers who want to age surrounded by their friends and community here.

Now Zobel has started a group to support caregivers for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Her first meeting showed “Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease” at the Family Resource Center (FRC) in Frazier Park. The group will meet there Thursdays, every two weeks, at 1:30 p.m. It is free. Just show up. Learning skills for dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia behaviors is the focus on July 27.

The Town Hall spotlight was shared by District 4 Supervisor David Couch. He talked about county cost-cutting. He asked what the ‘core mission’ of the Frazier Park Library is, and suggested charging for Tai Chi lessons and other cultural offerings.

This is part of the July 21, 2017 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
