Power outage widespread in Mountain Communities area

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 1:01 p.m.)—Southern California Edison representative Mary Ann Milbourne has provided the cause of the outage: “A rockslide near our Kern River I substation damaged equipment that supplies circuits to Bakersfield and the Mountain Communities.” Milbourne asked that we remind customers to please call 911 if they see downed power lines and remember to never approach or touch power lines.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 12:25 p.m.)—Southern California Edison says the cause of the outage is “equipment problems.”

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 12:02 p.m.)—Southern California Edison representative Mary Ann Milbourne told The Mountain Enterprise that Edison does not yet know the cause of the power outage. Her information did not include areas of Lebec that we know are without power and did not match the estimated number of customers without power on Edison’s website for this outage.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 11:26 a.m.)—It appears that PG&E power customers are not affected by this outage. PG&E servers most of Lebec beginning approximately a half mile north of Frazier Mountain Park Road.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 11:26 a.m.)—El Tejon Unified School District’s Audrey Weingarten said all schools will let out at the normal time. Superintendent Rodney Wallace decided it was safer to keep the kids in school because power is out at most of the homes anyway and there would be too much unnecessary confusion caused by trying to notify parents with such short notice.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 11:21 a.m.)—Gorman School will release students today at 11:45 a.m. due to the power outage.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 11:17 a.m.)—Southern California Edison has updated its estimate of customers affected to 9,780.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 10:49 a.m.)—Southern California Edison reports that about 4,900 customers are affected. Restoration of power is currently expected between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. today.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 10:35 a.m.)—A widespread power outage hit the Mountain Communities before 10:30 this morning. Power is out in Frazier Park, Lockwood Valley, Pine Mountain Club, parts of Lebec and Gorman. More information will be posted here when available.
