This week the United Way’s Community Reading Program began at Frazier Park School. Despite support staff union objections, a group of volunteers trained September 19 to provide reading enrichment for second graders.

Second grade teachers Susan Edwards and Michael Forrester welcomed the program, which has been operating in Bakersfield for 10 years. Teresa Twisselman from the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office gave the two-hour training.
