Schimmel Pleads ‘Not Guilty’ to His Baby’s Death

Jayson Schimmel, 33 pled ‘not guilty’ Monday, March 9 in Ventura County Superior Court to felony charges of murder and “assault on a child causing death.” The Lockwood Valley man was arrested March 5 for the murder of his two-and-a-half month old son, Steven Otto Schimmel. The Ventura County Coroner found evidence of Battered Child Syndrome, including multiple fractures and bruises on the child’s body, incurred within two weeks of the death.

Schimmel is being held in the Ventura County Main Jail with bail set at $505,000. His next court date is April 17 at 1:30 p.m.
