Sign up for CERT training

Be a hero. When the ‘Big One’ strikes, in a wildfire or snow emergency, people are needed who are trained to work with a team to help.

All Mountain Community residents are invited to register for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

The registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 30. The 20 hour training class is compressed into three Saturdays (October 11, October 25 and November 8).

Pre-registration is required; no walk-ins, because materials for each student need to be ordered and delivered in advance. There is no charge. Contact Tom Yancey (661.242.1094, tom1yancey@gmail.com). The training leads to a certification. Classes will be at the Pine Mountain clubhouse (Mil Potrero Highway and Beechwood Way, across from Pine Mountain Village).

Instructors invite volunteers from Piñon Pines, Cuddy Valley, Lake of the Woods, Lockwood Valley, Frazier Park, Lebec and Gorman also.

CERT training includes: Disaster Preparedness; Fire Suppression; Beginning First Aid & Triage; Light Search & Rescue. CERT members assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
