The Club — Teens-only after-school hangout opens

The Club will open on February 3. It is a teens-only hangout open Monday through Friday, 3:30 to 6 p.m.

“A special, separate place has been created where teenage friends can hang out together, get assistance with homework, play ping pong, fussball and X-Box games, watch movies and explore interactive tutorials on a wide screen,” Director Kristina Graves explained. The facility is on the Frazier Park School campus.

“People said they wanted to have a completely separate hangout that is only for people who are over 13. It is far less structured. We recognize they are teens and we want them to bring their friends just to try it.”

“Last year they started in the summer, and teens kept on coming. Nicole Watts will coordinate the teens-only project,” Graves said.

Teen Night programs begin on Friday, Feb. 21. There will be one a month from 7-9 p.m. Pizza and munchies will be available. “There is no cost for anything except field trips,” Graves added. “We are working closely with MyC3 (Mountain Youth Can Change Communities), which will be meeting at The Club,” she added.

This is part of the January 31, 2014 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
