• A ‘Character Counts’/Bobcat Assembly will be held at Frazier Park Elementary School, 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Monday, Feb. 1

• Relay For Life of the Mountain Communities will hold a Valentine’s Day themed Kickoff for this year’s event, 5:30 p.m., at the VFW Hall, 612 Canada Trail, FP. The fun will include a raffle and refreshments. Come learn how you can join in this community-based fight against cancer and find out about all the activities planned at this year’s Relay on June 25, 2016.

Tuesday, Feb. 2

• Rally for the Library hosted by Advocates for Library Enhancement (ALE), 2 p.m. in the Kern County Board of Supervisor’s Chambers, 1115 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield. ALE encourages attendance at this meeting to ask the Board of Supervisors to place a measure on the June 2016 ballot aimed at securing adequate Library funding. If you can’t attend call 661.868.3680 to arrange to speak remotely or email board@co.kern.ca.us to submit your comments to the board.

• Free Spanish and English classes will again be offered at the Frazier Park Library beginning today. Basic Spanish class is 4–5 p.m. and English as a Second Language is 5–6 p.m. Register for this eight week course at the front desk.

Wednesday, Feb. 3

• Gorman Joint Unified School District invites parents to an informational meeting on the Local Control Accountability Plan, 6:30 p.m. This meeting is for all parents to discuss the educational programs offered at the school. There will be another meeting presenting the same information on Monday, February 29 at 3 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 4

• AARP will hold its monthly potluck meeting at the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center at noon. Tammy Rowan of the Family Resource Center will be the guest speaker. Members are asked to bring a ‘cold weather dish’ to share.

• Registration for Frazier Mountain Little League will be held at Caveman Cavey’s from 6–9 p.m. today and tomorrow. Bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and proof of residence. A $50 deposit is required.

• All Ballots from LOW Mutual Water Co. shareholders are due at the water company office Thursday, Feb. 4 by 4:30 p.m. or they may be submitted for counting at the 7 p.m. board meeting.

• The Third Annual Mountain Youth Photo Contest is still open for submissions. If you have not submitted a photo yet, what are you waiting for? Entries will be accepted now until March 19 in three age categories: 6–10, 11–14 and 15–18. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third entries in each category. Get your submission form at the Frazier Park Library, The Mountain Enterprise, Basecamp, Artworks Gallery, the Pine Mountain Club front desk and www.MountainEnterprise.com. The Opening Party/Reception is Saturday, April 9, 5 p.m., at the Frazier Park Library.
