Friday, May 20

• Tour Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife with AARP. Members are free, non-members are $7. You must have signed up at the May 5 meeting. Carpool from the FMP Community Center at 9 a.m.

• El Tejon School’s Spring Carnival and Chili Cook-Off is today, 4–8 p.m. Food, a bounce house, games, music and a silent auction are all part of the fun. Carnival tickets are 20 for $10. Food tickets are 10 for $10, available at Ace Hardware, El Tejon School, Frazier Park Elementary and Frazier Mountain High School offices. Early bird discounted AYSO registration for Fall 2016 will also be available.

• A showing of First Twenty-Nine, a film about Sergeant John Hood, one of the instructors of the Navajo Code Talkers during WWII, will be presented at the Frazier Park Library at 5 p.m. Julian Wilson, the film’s producer, will be speaking briefly followed by discussions.

Saturday, May 21

• Hungry Valley SVRA offers free ATV Safety Classes for kids ages 6–17. Email HungryValleyASITraining@gmail.com for requirements and times.

• Learn about the Tataviam, the Native American group that inhabited portions of the Southern Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita area, at a talk given by Laurie Solis, Ph.D. 11 a.m. at the Ridge Route Historical Museum (3515 Park Dr., FP). Solis is an archaeologist and adjunct professor of Anthropology at College of the Canyons. Refreshments will be served.

• The Full Moon Night Hike, 8–10 p.m., shows Wind Wolves Preserve in a different light, for ages 6 and up. Make your reservations at 661.858.1115 or windwolvespreserve@twc-ca.org.

Sunday, May 22

• A Backcountry Adventure is planned at Wind Wolves Preserve today, 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Bring water, lunch and sturdy shoes on this “Authorized Access Only” tour of the preserve. For reservations call 661.858.1115 or email at windwolvespreserve@twc-ca.org.

• All Fiesta Days Beer Booth volunteers must complete a free California Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) class in order to serve beer at the event. The class, which teaches responsible beverage service, will be held at Caveman Cavey’s in the cave from noon to 4 p.m. Additional classes are scheduled for June 12 and July 10 at the same time and location.

• Two Students from El Tejon School go to the 65th Annual California State Science Fair at the California Science Center (700 Exposition Park Drive in Los Angeles). Knight Jarecki and William Edwards will take their projects. Public viewing is from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

• Frazier Mountain FFA students’ annual Awards Banquet will be held at Frazier Mountain High School at 6 p.m.

Ongoing and Upcoming

• ‘Quail Lake, a Valuable Wildlife Oasis’ with Biologist Lynn Stafford and Photographer Bill Buchroeder will be hosted on Friday, May 27 by the Condor Group of the Sierra Club, 6:30 p.m., in the Pool Pavilion of PMC clubhouse.

• ‘In the Wings Studio of Dance’ performance teams will strut their stuff at a Bakersfield Blaze game on Friday, May 27. Performances will be pregame at 6:30 p.m. (game starts at 7:30 p.m.) and during the 7th Inning Stretch. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the dance studio or at the game; Sam Lynn Ballpark, 4009 Chester Ave, Bakersfield.

• Look for bargains at the Pine Mountain Club Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the blacktop at Lampkin Park. Proceeds to benefit the PMC CERT team.

• The Ridge Route Run Car Show and Memorial Day Parade is coming to Frazier Park, Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy amazing cars, food, music and local crafts. Trophies will be given for the most patriotic parade entries. Primal Force will perform in front of La Sierra, 11 a.m.– 2 p.m. Registration to display your car is $35. Entry and events are free. • If history and cannons that go boom are your thing, the Civil War Reenactment at Fort Tejon is May 28-29, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Travel back to 1865. Your friends and family will love 19th century games. There will be one mock Civil War battle on Saturday and two on Sunday. Adults $7, ages 7–17 $3, under 7 free; family $14. Watch for a president or two giving speeches from the barracks balcony!
