Friday, May 27

• Quail Lake, a Valuable Wildlife Oasis’ is the Condor Group chapter of the Sierra Club’s program at the PMC clubhouse tonight. Everyone, including nonmembers, is welcome to come. A social is at 6:30 p.m. and the program is 7 to 9 p.m. with photographs by Bill Buchroeder and amazing stories about the ecology of Quail Lake by Biologist Lynn Stafford. The program is in the PMC pool pavilion.

• ‘In the Wings Studio of Dance’ performance teams will strut their stuff at a Bakersfield Blaze game. Performances will be before the game at 6:30 p.m. (the game starts at 7:30 p.m.). They’ll do another turn during the 7th Inning Stretch. Special tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the dance studio in Frazier Park. The game is at the Sam Lynn Ballpark, 4009 Chester Ave, Bakersfield.

Saturday, May 28

• Look for bargains at the Pine Mountain Club Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the blacktop at Lampkin Park. Proceeds will benefit the PMC Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

• Bakersfield National Cemetery Memorial Day event begins at 9 a.m. See story on page 13.
• Take Hungry Valley SVRA General Plan survey, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park and in a booth at the car show.

• Are Memorial Day parades and cool cars your thing? The 8th Annual Ridge Route Run Car Show is coming to Frazier Park, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with amazing cars, a military parade at noon, food, music, local arts and crafts. Entry for spectators is free. Registration to put your special car into competition at the event is $35. For more details, visit www.ridgerouterun.com.

• If you like the boom of cannons and the lure of time travel, come to the 33rd Annual Civil War Reenactment at Fort Tejon, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. This is a big deal! Your friends and family will love the merchants’ fair and an 1865-style baseball game at 1 p.m. between the troops. At 3 p.m. see a Civil War battle. On Sunday, see battles at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Meet Abraham Lincoln. Adults $7, 7–17 $3, under 7 free; families $18.

• Native Plants and Pollinators of Frazier Mountain is the topic of a nature walk led by ecologist Ruben Alarcon, Ph.D. and botanist Pam De Vries, 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Group size is limited to 25. Wednesday, June 1

• Learn about ‘Scams that Target Senior Citizens’ and how to protect yourself and your loved ones. Kern County Aging and Adult Services invites you to a workshop at the Frazier Park Library, 11 a.m. to noon.

• Help an abused or neglected child by becoming a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Orientations for volunteers will be held June 1 and 8 (5:30 p.m.) at CASA (1717 Columbus St., Bakersfield). See below for more orientation options.
