Monday, Aug. 1

• Ridge Route Communities Museum Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. Members will continue discussing A Passion for Nature: The Life of John Muir, by Donald Worster and begin reading Giants: The Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, by John Stauffer.

• Kids ages 10-14, come march in the Fiesta Days Parade: learn marching formations with the Junior Law Enforcement Leadership Academy (LELA), a free, week-long training course, 6-7 p.m. beginning August 1, running through Friday, Aug. 5 at Frazier Park Elementary School (3149 San Carlos Tr., FP.). Tuesday, Aug. 2

• Basketball clinics for 2nd through 9th grades are being held Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Frazier Mountain High School gym today through August 11. Just show up; $5 per session will benefit FMHS basketball team.

• Looking for something fun to do in the cool of the evening? Sports Night at Lampkin Park is every Tuesday, 5–7 p.m., just west of Pine Mountain Village. All ages are welcome. Sports equipment is provided.

Wednesday, Aug. 3

• Do you need some great summer reading material? Friends of the Frazier Park Library begin their used book sale for members only from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the library. Not a member? Memberships will be available at $10 per individual or $15 per family. The sale is open to all Aug. 4 (11 a.m.–6 p.m.), Family Day is Aug. 5 (9 a.m.–5 p.m.) and Half-price Day is Aug. 6 (9 a.m.–4 p.m.).

• There is a child who needs your help. Learn how to become a CASA volunteer at an orientation, 5:30 p.m. at the CASA office (1717 Columbus St., Bakersfield). CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) stand up for abused children who need a voice in the court system. • Dollar General answers your questions, Wednesday, August 10 at Frazier Park Library, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., about its beer and wine license application. The license will soon be voted on by the Board of Supervisors.

• The Boys and Girls Club Summer Day Camp is weekdays through August 12 at Frazier Park School. Lunch is provided to July 30. Sign up for one day or for all nine weeks. A new fun theme is introduced each week. For a full schedule and to enroll, call 661.245.3139.

• All hands on deck! FMHS Soccer and Football teams need your help Saturday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m., to assist with installation of new sod on Falcon Field.
