• Healthy Harvest Resource Fair sponsored by Aging and Adult Services, 9 a.m. to noon (5357 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield; 661.868.1000) offers free flu vaccinations to seniors 60 years and older. Pets belonging to Kern County seniors 62 and older receive free licensing, rabies shots and microchipping while supplies last.

• Why is there a new water rate study by the Frazier Park Public Utility District? The first of two public information meetings is today at 1 p.m. in the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center. Come to ask your questions.

• Harvest Festival fun is planned at Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School, 19009 Cerro Noroeste Rd. west of PMC from 2 to 5 p.m. Free admission with wristbands purchased for the kids activities, which include games, face painting and cookie decorating.

• Is a spooky evening up your alley? The Peter LeBeck Candlelight Ghost Tour is at Fort Tejon State Historic Park 4:30–9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children. Enjoy fun activities for all. The event will be catered by the Falcon’s Nest. Ghost tours begin at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, October 19

• Get a head start on your Christmas shopping. Join the AARP trip to the Farm Girls Vintage Finds store, 2113 Q St., Bakersfield. The group will have lunch at Hodel’s Country Dining at 12:30 p.m. The trip is open to everyone. Meet at the Frazier Mtn. Park Comm. Ctr. by 10 a.m.

• Will you and your family be ready when the next earthquake strikes? Practice how to ‘Drop, Cover and Hold On’ during The Great California Shakeout at 10:20 a.m. Visit http://www.shakeout.org/california/index.html to learn more.

• Cash for College Night will be held at FMHS, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Seniors will get help filling out their FAFSA forms. Parents are welcome too.

• All that hard work has paid off! Come celebrate the new field at Frazier Mountain High School at a dedication ceremony and BBQ fundraiser, 6:30 p.m. The FMHS Booster Club will sell tri-tip sandwich dinners for $10 with the proceeds benefitting Falcon sports programs.

• Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15 through December 7. If you need help to make an informed decision about your Medicare options (and who doesn’t?) attend a free seminar at the Family Resource Center. • It’s Homecoming at FMHS Friday, Oct. 21! Be here for the parade at 6:30 p.m. Then come cheer the Falcon Football Team vs. Alpaugh at 7 p.m. Game tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and alumni, $3 for ages 3–7. There will be a dance after the game.

• Get in the Halloween spirit with local ghost stories and seasonal crafts at your Haunted Library Saturday, Oct. 22, 3:30–5 p.m. Stay for the Second Annual Trunk or Treat, 5–7 p.m. The Frazier Park Library’s family-friendly Trunk or Treat will be in the library parking lot (overflow will be in the lot at the park).

• 36,000 new neighbors may arrive with Tejon Ranchcorp’s Grapevine project of 10,000 to 12,000 new homes and commercial/ industrial development at the base of the Grapevine to Laval Road. Public comments will be heard by the Kern County Planning Commission on October 27 at 7 p.m. (1115 Truxtun Ave., ground floor in the Board of Supervisors chambers).
