• Frontier Army Days at Fort Tejon State Historic Park, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., offers a unique look back at life during the 1850s at this military outpost. Cost is adults, $5; children, $3.

• Don’t miss the Wildfire Awareness Expo, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at Kern County Fire Department Station 58 in Pine Mountain Club (2420 Symonds Dr.). What are the new hazard reduction guidelines? Can they cost you $1,000? Come meet the firefighters and enjoy the Expo.

• Andrew Wong offers a free piano concert from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The program, hosted by South Kern Christian Church, will begin with a half-hour of hymns followed by classical pieces by selected composers.

• Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s mobile office moved this month to the PMC Pool Pavilion from 10 to 11 a.m. The public is invited to come ask questions and voice concerns. Contact the district office, 661.327.3611, for the location of future mobile staff visits.

• AT&T’s request to place a cell tower in Frazier Mountain Park will be heard by the Kern County Planning Commission, 7 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers (1115 Truxtun Ave., first floor, Bakersfield). The tower is set for 3977 Park Dr., FP. What kind of “stealth” enclosure do you prefer? A second zoning ordinance change request will be heard to make it easier to build “accessory dwelling units” on residential parcels.

• The Spring Carnival at El Tejon School is Friday, May 12, 4–8 p.m. Enjoy food, games, music and prizes hosted by students and their families for the third year. Food tickets are $1 each and game tickets are two for $1. Enter the Chili Cook-off and you might win a $50 prize.
