•Coat Drive to warm our mountain citizens! Bring clean, gently-used coats, hats, gloves and blankets to State Farm Insurance (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, #202, Frazier Park) and Pine Mountain Realty (16206 Pine Valley Lane, Pine Mountain Village), Nov. 1–Dec. 3.

•Calling young photographers ages 6-18 to the Mountain Youth Photo Contest, sponsored by Mel and Kathy Weinstein. Bring your digital file or 8 x 10 print to the Frazier Park Library, The Mountain Enterprise office, or Basecamp in Pine Mtn Village, Oct. 27–Dec. 1. A signed submission sheet must accompany each entry. First prize in each category is $100; second prize in each category is $50.

•During National Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23–31, display red ribbons to visibly support drug-free communities. Take the pledge at redribbon.org.

•Pumpkins are still available at Frazier Park School’s Pumpkin Patch (3149 San Carlos Tr., Frazier Park), open M-F from 7:50-8:10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m (Thursdays to 6 p.m.) in October. All pumpkins are $4 each or 3/$10. Proceeds will benefit Frazier Park School.

•Frazier Park Community Fixed Route Bus Service through the Mountain Communities has been extended to October 29 with its regular schedule. Call 1-800-560-1733 for schedule and pick-up info, plus Dial-A-Ride (Dial-A-Ride’s western limit is Piñon Pines).

Thursday, Oct. 24

•Explore the world of science through microscopes! The whole family, young and old, is welcome to use the microscope to view viruses,and bacteria safely in hands-on science fun presented by Tamara Trost, FMHS science teacher, 3:30 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Dr., FP).

Friday, Oct. 25

•Join the Harvest Festival at Frazier Park School (3149 San Carlos Tr., Frazier Park) 2-6 p.m. Enjoy food and other fun. Open to everyone (245-3312).

•Freaky Mountain Haunted School aka FMHS hosts two nights of sheer horror in its creepy, creaky FFA “haunted barn.” Ghosts, goblins and ghouls will be lurking from 7-10 p.m. Living souls under 18 pay $5; adults, $7 (to benefit senior prom); bake sale, crafts and apple-bobbing for younger kids.

Saturday, Oct. 26

•Attention Parents! Medication Take Back Day, is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Frazier Park Market (632 Laguna Tr., Frazier Park). Help protect our youth with safe disposal of unused pet medications or expired and unwanted personal medications (245-4303).

•Spooky Ghost Stories by local storytellers for thrills, chills and giggles at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Dr., Frazier Park) 3:30-5 p.m. Costumes welcome, but optional. Something for all ages. Refreshments served.

•Public will review L.A. County Renewable Energy ordinance draft, 9 a.m., Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theater (3041 W. Avenue K, Lancaster).

•2013 ZombieMania Parade and Trunk or Treat invites businesses and residents to set up treat stations along the route to hand out goodies. Zombies can get free gore at four make-up stations beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Frazier Park. Volunteer Center is Computers & Games, 533 San Gabriel Trail. All costumes welcome. Parade route is Mt. Pinos Way from Monterey Tr. to Ace Hardware (661-242-1214).

•Join the Artisans Gallery team, but attend the “Get the Details Meeting” first! Meet at Center of the World Loft at 3 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 31

•Costume Parade at Frazier Park School (3149 San Carlos Tr., Frazier Park), 12:45 p.m. features scary and amusing characters (245-3312).

•Trunk or Treat returns to Pine Mountain Village. Decorate your trunk or truck bed and don your costume. Come on down to the Village Center to share or beg for goodies. Fun begins at 4 p.m.

•Visit the Haunted House at Pine Mountain Village Gazebo, 4–6 p.m. Take the chill off with hot cider or cocoa afterward. Tickets are $3 for ages 14+ and $2 for ages. All proceeds go to Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School.

•Halloween Bingo appears for one additional night this week at the VFW Post (612 Canada Tr. Frazier Park), 7-9:30 p.m. Come in costume if you like and come in from the cold to help support local scouting organizations and sports teams. Prizes will be awarded; must be 18.
