•Work of HeArt Gallery (3011 Mt. Pinos Way, FP) displays ceramics, glass and paper art and is open every Tues.–Sat., 11–3 p.m. until Christmas.

•Los Padres National Forest seeks public comment on changes to national forest fees (including for snow play on Mt. Pinos). See LPNF website for details. Submit comments by Jan. 6, 2014 to Tamara Wilton, CA Recreation Resource Advisory Committee (twilton@fs.fed.us).

•Recycle your Christmas tree, December 27–January 12 at the Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Rd., Lebec). Kern County Waste Management asks that you please remove tree stands, nails and decorations (no bags, please).

Friday, Dec. 20

•Santa will make a short stop at the PMC Clubhouse 3–4 p.m. (2425 Beechwood Way, Pine Mtn.) en route to the North Pole.Take pictures and be sure to ask Santa for what you want! Then, join the Family Christmas Party at PMC, 6–8:30 p.m. with music, dancing, and dinner (available for purchase) at the clubhouse Condor Room.

•Work of HeArt Gallery features Celtic melodies for winter solstice at 7 p.m., $15 donation. Refreshments in the lobby.

Saturday, Dec. 21

•Bring your kids and camera to see Santa at Chatterpillar, 12–2 p.m. See ad pg. 3 and story pg. 10.

•The laughs continue at Lee Dunnavant’s Speak Easy Theater short play holiday presentation, 7 p.m. at Basecamp (16225 Pine Valley Ln. #12, Pine Mountain Village). Donations are accepted; meals and beverages are available.

•Borrow a moth-ridden pullover from Uncle Bob to compete in the “Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest” at YesterYear’s 10th Annual Christmas Show, 7–11 p.m. in the PMC clubhouse Condor Room (2425 Beechwood Way, Pine Mtn.); family-friendly with adult dancing at 8 p.m. for members and guests.

•For community members unable to have their own Christmas meal, join the good people at the Sweet Galley patio (3604 Arroyo Tr., FP), 12–3 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 31 — New Year’s Eve

•New York New Year’s Eve at La Sierra Restaurant in Frazier Park offers a prime rib dinner with all the trimmings and dessert at $55 per couple, 6–9 p.m. with champagne at “New York midnight” at 9 p.m. Music will be by YesterYear.

•New Year’s Eve at PMC clubhouse begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails, then feature hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dancing to the music of Boys Night Out, $70. Choose from grilled salmon, NY steak, or grilled chicken breast entrees. For reservations call 661-242-3788.

•Midnight Ride plays live at Sue’s Tavern, 9 p.m.–2 a.m. (3440 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Listen to the sounds of classic rock before, during, and after midnight. Free food and champagne at midnight. No cover.

•Madd Bailey’s Pub presents The Guilty Bystanders, 9 p.m.–1 a.m. Cover charge is $10 at the door (16200 Mil Potrero Hwy., Pine Mtn. Village). The Wine Room (downstairs) will be open for tastings. ($7/6 wines).

•Happy New Year! Feliz Año Nuevo! Glückliches Neues Jahr!

•Make a splash at the Polar Bear Plunge, 11 a.m., $5 at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center (1325 Q St., Bkfld.) Ages 7-107 are welcome to take the plunge, swim 25 yards, and climb out to a steaming cup of hot cocoa. No wetsuits allowed. Really, that is a rule.
