•Recycle your Christmas tree, December 27–January 12 at the Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road, Lebec). Kern County Waste Management asks that you please remove tree stands, nails, decorations and plastic garbage bags before putting trees into the recycle bin.

•The PMCPOA board will hold open budget workshops on Tuesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 29 at 10 a.m. (2425 Beechwood Way, PMC clubhouse).

•If you take the school bus home to Pine Mountain, make the short walk from the bus stop to the PMC recreation room for quiet study time during the Homework Club’s open hours, every Tuesday and Thursday from 3–5 p.m. except school holidays (2425 Beechwood Way, Pine Mountain).

Saturday, Jan. 11

•Join the Ridge Route Preservation Organization for a clean-up day on the historic roadway before winter rains come. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Ranch House Restaurant in Gorman. Bring water, lunch, warm clothes and tools. Call the Ridge Route Museum (661- 245-7747) for details.

•An architect will give an analysis of the condition of the Pine Mountain clubhouse today, 1 p.m. in an open meeting. All members are invited to come listen to the information that will be used to make future plans about possibly renovating or rebuilding what is arguably PMC’s most expensive asset.

Monday, Jan. 13

•A workshop on Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia will be presented by Julie Womack of the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County from 1–4 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive, Frazier Park). Learn what signs to watch for, what the stages and challenges are and how caretakers, family members and elders can cope with the disease. Tuesday, Jan. 14

•Frazier Mountain High School’s first league basketball meet features a unique combined boys’ and girls’ varsity challenging rival Kern Valley boys’ varsity at 6 p.m. Also in home games are the girls’ JV team, 3 p.m. and the boys’ JV team, 4:30 p.m. (700 Falcon Way, Lebec).

Friday, Jan. 17

•Frazier Mountain High School varsity boys’ basketball team travels to Bishop for a conference game at Bishop High School, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 18

•Cancer Fears the Walker, so gear up for our local Relay For Life to join in the world’s biggest fight to end cancer. The 2014 Kickoff Celebration is 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library Community Room. •The Vine Pregnancy Center’s Sanctity of Human Life Celebration 2014 is at Cuddy Hall, 5–7 p.m. A spaghetti dinner by Caveman Cavey’s is a fundraiser for the center. Monday, Jan. 20—MLK Day

•‘Intelligence plus character—that is the true goal of education,’ said Martin Luther King Jr. Today ETUSD, Gorman Elementary and Peak to Peak students have a school holiday to observe the contributions made by this civil rights activist. The Mountain Enterprise will be open.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

•It’s movie morning with Mommy and Me, so grab your mom by the hand and insist on some downtime at the Family Resource Center community room, 10 a.m.–12 noon (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park).

Thursday, Jan. 23

•See the Annual Science Fair for Frazier Park, El Tejon and FMHS today, 6–7:30 p.m. at the El Tejon Gym (4337 Lebec Road, Lebec). Each year this is an exciting show of creative work by young scientists, well worth your time to go see. Winners will compete in the Kern County Regional Science Fair on March 17–18, 2014.
