•If you take the school bus home to Pine Mountain, make the short walk from the bus stop to the PMC recreation room for quiet study time during the Homework Club’s open hours, every Tuesday and Thursday from 3–5 p.m. except school holidays (2425 Beechwood Way, Pine Mountain).

•The Kern County Grand Jury is accepting applications through April 4. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, be at least 18 years old, have a working knowledge of English, be able to donate 20 hours per week and have resided in Kern County for at least one year. Friday, Jan. 17

•Frazier Mountain Little League continues sign-ups for the 2014 season from 5–8 p.m. at Caveman Cavey’s (3620 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). The cost is $125 for T-ball and $135 for all other divisions.

•Musical Open Mic will be hosted by the Coffee Cantina the second Friday of each month, 6 p.m. until closing (3011 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Bring your instrument, your voice—and your bravado!

•Frazier Mountain High School varsity boys’ basketball team travels to Bishop for a conference game at Bishop High School, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 18

•Frazier Mountain Little League continues sign-ups and hosts spring tryouts at El Tejon Fields, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (4337 Lebec Road, Lebec).

•Cancer Fears the Walker, so gear up for our local Relay For Life to join in the world’s biggest fight to end cancer. The 2014 Kickoff Celebration is 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library Community Room. Get informed while enjoying refreshments and entering your name to win prizes (3732 Park Dr., Frazier Park).

•Jim Moon Trio plays live music from the 60s–80s at the PMC clubhouse (2425 Beechwood Way, Pine Mountain), 7–11 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 19

•The Vine Pregnancy Center’s Sanctity of Human Life Celebration 2014 is at Cuddy Hall, 5–7 p.m. A spaghetti dinner by Caveman Cavey’s is a fundraiser for the center. Monday, Jan. 20 — MLK Day of Service to Others

•‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?’ said Martin Luther King Jr. Today ETUSD, Gorman Elementary and Peak to Peak students are on holiday in honor of this civil rights activist. This is also a national day of service to others in MLK’s memory. The Mountain Enterprise will be open to serve the community today.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

•It’s movie morning with Mommy and Me, so grab your mom by the hand and insist on some downtime at the Family Resource Center community room, 10 a.m.–12 noon (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Refreshments will be served.

•Make a Difference: Show up and have your opinion counted about our area’s unmet transportation needs, 4 p.m. at the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center (3801 Park Drive, FP).

Thursday, Jan. 23

•See the Annual Science Fair for Frazier Park, El Tejon and FMHS today, 6–7:30 p.m. at the El Tejon gym (4337 Lebec Road, Lebec). Each year this is an exciting show of creative work by young scientists, inspiring to see. Winners will compete in the Kern County Regional Science Fair on March 17–18, 2014.
