•Michi’s Magic Bookshelf, 11 a.m. at the Frazier Park Library features the wonders of gardening (3732 Park Drive, FP).

•Ribbon-cutting for the new fire station in Pine Mountain, Kern County Fire Station 58, is at 12 noon (2420 Symonds Drive). Stick around for a free barbecue (1–3 p.m.) and live music from The Ford Music Machine (1–4 p.m.) as part of PMC Community Appreciation Day.

•Concert on the Greens music series continues with 360 Horns, 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the Pine Mtn. golf course (2524 Beechwood Way, PMC). Free.

Sunday, July 13

•The Annual PMC Board Meeting and Election begins at 1 p.m. at the Pine Mountain clubhouse (2524 Beechwood Way, PMC).

•It’s time for the museum’s annual picnic, 5 p.m. at the Ridge Route Museum (3515 Park Dr., Frazier Park). Enjoy Celtic music by Ron Edsall and the life musings of guest speaker Don Eubank. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and cold beverages are provided. Guests are invited to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share. Free for museum members; $2 for non-members 13+ and $1 for ages 4–12.

•Movies In The Park brings Back to the Future to the mountain community, 8:30 p.m. at the Frazier Mountain Park (3801 Park Dr., FP). Refreshments will be provided. Bring blankets and a lawn chair.

Ongoing and Upcoming

•Free, nutritious lunch for youths. Toddlers to age 18 will be served at Frazier Park School, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., M–F, June 9–August 1 (except July 4). No forms to fill out, no financial qualifications. Youths are welcome to join in and bring their friends, says Robert Sanchez, cafeteria manager.

•By popular demand, sports night is every Tuesday from 5–7 p.m. at Lampkin field, Pine Mountain Village—now through the summer. Sports include basketball, volleyball and soccer. Invite your friends. Sponsored by Peak to Peak Mountain Charter and Principal Juan Ricoy.

•Center of the World Festival invites amateur songwriters, filmmakers, photographers and artists to submit works centered on social justice and ecological issues. Submission deadlines are July 30 for songwriting (1st prize, $500), filmmaking (1st prize, $200/youth and adult categories), social photo contest (1st prize, $500) and Art Speaks (1st prize, $300).
