Friday, December 12

•This is the last day to play Santa for the Toys for Tots and Gifts for Teens Project. Place new, unwrapped toys and gifts for teens in boxes throughout the Mountain Communities and bring a sparkle to the eyes of a child. Locations include The Mountain Enterprise office, CHP in Lebec, the Pine Mountain clubhouse and the Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, FP).

Saturday, December 13

•A U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Job Fair is today, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Temescal Fire Station (4640 Piru Canyon Road, Piru). Representatives of Los Padres National Forest fire staff will share information and answer questions for anyone interested in pursuing a career as a wildland firefighter. •Michi’s Magic Bookshelf Craft Club will feature story time at the children’s area of Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Dr., FP), 11 a.m. Listen to Christmas books: Apple Tree Christmas and Winter’s Gift. See review of these books in the December issue of The New Mountain Pioneer.

•The Grapevine Singers belt out Christmas tunes from a ‘shape note’ singing tradition, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive, FP).

•Santa arrives for Christmas in the Village with his own parade at noon. Join in, dress as an elf or in holiday fare and enjoy the fun at Pine Mountain Village, 12–4 p.m. Tell Santa your Christmas wish at the gazebo, 12:30–4 p.m., with storytelling, games, fun, food and drinks at the Log Activity Center. All are welcome to this free event. Wendy from Chatterpillar Toys & Gifts will begin face painting at 10:30 a.m. behind the Pine Mountain General Store. After the parade, face painting will move to the Activity Center.

•Hungry Valley Explores the Stars with drop-in crafts and stargazing. Drop-in crafts for kids are 12–2 p.m. Learn about constellations and make a craft to take home. At 5 p.m. enjoy a free astronomy event with the Astronomy Club of Santa Clarita (weather permitting). View stars and planets through telescopes and count meteors. Stay warm by the campfire and enjoy s’mores!

•Come to the Mountain Youth Photo Contest Gallery Opening Party at 5 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library. Winners will receive cash prizes. Families, friends and the public are all invited. You’ll enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of young people, ages 4 to 18 years of age.

•In the Wings performance and competition teams dance on ice at Rabobank Arena at the Condors’ game intermission, 7 p.m. Tickets are available at In the Wings Studio: $13 upper level; $20 lower lever (3524 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park).

•The Old Time Radio Theater returns with four holiday radio shows and ‘That’s What Christmas Means To Me,’ 7 p.m. at Basecamp (16311 Askin Dr, PMV). One beverage minimum. Call 242.2709 for reservations.

Wednesday, December 17

•‘Winter Pop Music’ by Gorman Elementary School students is at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. (49847 Gorman School Road, Gorman).

•Free flu shots for the homeless, courtesy of Kern County Homeless Collaborative, are at the Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, Suite #102, FP) 10–11 a.m. Adults only (no infants or children under 18 years). The service is expanded to include the uninsured and those ‘couch surfing’ as well.

Thursday, December 11

•The Kern County Planning Commission addresses the request for revisions to the Kern County 2014 Zoning Ordinance, 7 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, Kern County Administrative Center (1115 Truxtun Avenue, Bkfld). Zoning amendment would add a regulation to ensure land usage complies with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements to protect water quality.

Friday, December 19

•Today is a minimum day for all Mountain Community school students. Release times are 12:15 p.m. for Peak to Peak Mountain Charter; 1:15 p.m. Gorman Elementary; 1 p.m. FMHS; 1:15 p.m. Frazier Park School and 1:50 p.m. for El Tejon Middle School.
