Friday, January 30

• Come on out to support the FMHS varsity basketball teams in their battle against Bishop (700 Falcon Way, Lebec). The girls play at 4:30 p.m. and the boys play at 6 p.m. Admission is Adults $5.00, Students and Seniors $3.00. Children under 7 free.

• The Boys and Girls Club is hosting a Teen Movie Night, 7–9 p.m., at the Frazier Park School Cafeteria (3149 San Carlos Trail, Frazier Park). This free event includes a movie, popcorn, candy and soda. Gather your friends, age 13+, and head on over–don’t miss out!

• A free seminar on government contracting and compliance with labor laws for small businesses will be hosted by Assemblywoman Shannon Grove. Saturday, January 31

• Valley Clean Air Now is offering free car emissions and diagnostic inspection at Kern County Raceway Park, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. (13500 Raceway Blvd., I–5 and Enos Ln., Bakersfiels). Event gates may close earlier due to maximum vehicles. No smog certificates will be given but certificates for repairs will be issued (info@valley-can.org or 1.800.806.2004).

• An Outdoor Survival Preparedness Class for kids and parents on wilderness safety is offered 11 a.m–1 p.m. at Wind Wolves Preserve. This free event is for ages 4–18; however, all are welcome. (From Frazier Park, head 19.4 miles north on I-5, exit west on State Route 166 and drive 14.6 miles to 16019 Maricopa Highway–661.858.1115, www.wildlandsconservancy.org).

* Explore ‘The Wonders of Weather’ at this month’s Science Saturday at the Pine Mountain Clubhouse (2524 Beachwood Way, PMC). From 1–3 p.m. members and guests can enjoy fun weather-related projects and learn the basic principles of weather. All ages are welcome and children under 10 must have adult supervision.

Sunday, February 1

• Fun, food, a raffle and your favorite drinks will be available during Super Bowl XLIX at Sue’s Tavern (3440 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). The festivities begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by the kick-off at 3:25 p.m. No cover charge but lots of fun!

Tuesday, February 3

• Kern County Search and Rescue will hold its monthly meeting at the Frazier Park Community Center at 7 p.m. (3801 Park Drive, Frazier Park). If you are interested in becoming a member of the team, please attend the meeting to learn about volunteering.

Friday, February 6

• Basecamp Cafe is hosting Teen Night, 7-9 p.m. (16311 Askin Dr., PMV). Bring your friends and enjoy games and dancing. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No cover charge.

Saturday, February 7

• It’s time to warm up your bats and gloves–Frazier Mountain Little League is holding try-outs and registration, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., at Tejon Fields (4265 Lebec Road, Lebec) For more information, see page 4 of this week’s print edition.

• Celebration of Life for Richard Hoegh, 1-3 p.m. at Frazier Mountain High School. Come to say thanks and good-bye, meet the family and share a celebration of a unique man who devoted himself to helping improve quality of life here.

• Fort Tejon’s Frontier Army Days will focus on the U.S. Infantry at Fort Tejon in 1864, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Come to learn about the life of a Civil War soldier through a living history demonstration. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for ages 7-17. Children 6 years and under are free. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch (the park has no concessions) and enjoy the picnic tables under the big oak trees (4201 Fort Tejon Road, Lebec, about 5 miles north on the Interstate 5, off at the Fort Tejon exit).

• Scholarships are available from Green Dragon Farms for Frazier Mountain Community students and adult residents. Pick up an application at Green Dragon Farms (3433 Los Padres Drive, Frazier Park), Frazier Mountain High School, FFA office (700 Falcon Way, Lebec) or The Mountain Enterprise (3341 Los Padres Dr., Frazier Park). Deadline is February 28.

• Peak to Peak Mountain Charter is accepting Intents to Enroll, Kindergarten–8th grade, for the 2015-16 school year. All Intents to Enroll received by February 27 will be placed in the public lottery to be held on March 2. For more information, please call 661.242.3811.

• Los Padres National Forest will begin prescribed burns in the Mountain Communities. Please contact John Abell, Mt. Pinos Fire Management officer if you need further information (661.245.3731).

• Do you need help with your open enrollment for Medi-Cal Insurance and Covered California? Call for an appointment, Monday–Friday, at the Family Resource Center with a certified enrollment counselor (661.245.4303). Open enrollment ends February 15.
