News from the Western Antelope Valley

Mr. Skaggs Goes to Washington

The word from the Oso Town Council is that they are tired of waiting for better communication from the solar companies which made promises that are not being kept.

Richard Skaggs, president of the Oso Council, said last week he will be announcing at the public meeting Thursday, Sept. 27 (6:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Market meeting room) that representatives from the council plan to visit Washington, D.C., perhaps as early as next week.

A staff person, Jan Helsund, said a delegation plans to meet with legislators and others in the federal government about ways to secure greater fairness for communities that are being changed by federally subsidized renewable power companies.

Meanwhile, on the home front, zoning changes proposed by Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning will also affect the land use options for those in the Western Antelope Valley as the county rewrites its general and specific plans next year.

Oso Town Council has arranged for Planning Department employees to be at the Fairmont Market (22847 W. Avenue D / Hwy 138) to talk with property owners about the specifics of proposed zoning changes in the Neenach and Fairmont areas on October 18, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; October 19 from noon to 8 p.m. and October 20 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Oktoberfest at Wee Vill

Jill Moran reports that the first annual Oktoberfest at Wee Vill Market will be Sunday, Oct. 14, 1-6 p.m. “with Anton Schnitzel and the Merry Makers!” Tickets are $11 in advance or $12.50 at the door. There will be Polish and German food such as bratwurst, kielbasa, sauerkraut and German potato salad! This is sure to be a winner!
