Vast Equifax data breach endangers half of U.S. population—143 million

A consensus is growing this week that almost everyone holding credit cards in the United States has been exposed to massive identity theft and cyberfraud because of carelessness by one of the three largest credit reporting agencies in the world. This event is likely to plague consumers for decades.
