Veterans honored at Prosser Memorial

A small boy stepped up to a very tall man during the Veterans Day ceremony at the Cody Prosser Veterans Memorial in Frazier Mountain Park Tuesday. The boy handed the Korean War soldier, now 83, a hand-printed card that said, “Thank you Veteran for ar freedom.” It was made by the Frazier Park School student.

Leon Frankamp reached down and shook the young lad’s hand. There were many gestures as simple and sweet during the event. Those were balanced by a new depth in the words of speakers of all ages about the complex nature of service, and of gratitude.

Speaker Terrence Alexis, with National Cement of Lebec, acknowledged that this is a nation weary of war. He quoted John F. Kennedy in 1961, saying that he prays “that there will be no veterans of any further war—not because all…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
