LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at 4:45 p.m.)–Krista Mutual Water Company Manager Pam Jarecki reports that the well motor had to be replaced and the system should be back in operation by approximately 8 p.m. this evening. She will be issuing a Boil Water notice shortly.

BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR THE
AFFECTED CUSTOMERS OF THE
KRISTA MUTUAL WATER COMPANY
Failure to Follow This Advisory Could Result in Stomach or Intestinal
Illness
Beginning Monday, August 23, 2016, an electrical issue with the well pump at Well 01
has caused a loss of water pressure at the Krista Mutual Water Company. We are
working with our distribution operator to replace the pump motor for Well 01, and we
expect to restore water pressure as soon as possible. However, it is unclear when
power will be restored to the Water System.
Loss of pressure and water outage for an extended period of time may cause possible
contamination of the water supply by potentially harmful microorganisms. Following
restoration of pressure in the distribution system, we will disinfect and flush the
distribution system and will be collecting bacteriological quality samples to verify the
bacteriological quality of the water being served. However, this alone is not adequate to
protect public health. Therefore, the State Water Resources Control Board in
conjunction with the Krista Mutual Water Company is advising the customers to boil
their tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes.
All tap water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled rapidly for at least 1
minute. This is the preferred method to assure that the water is safe to drink.
Upon return of water service, if your water looks cloudy or dirty, you should flush the line
until the water appears clear and the water quality returns to normal. Do not be alarmed
if you experience higher than normal chlorine concentrations in your water since
increased chlorine residuals are used to disinfect the lines after leaks and/or water
outages occur.
You will be notified when it is no longer necessary to boil your drinking water.
