NEENACH, CA (Monday, June 29, 2015 at 4:05 p.m.)—An army of Los Angeles County and United States Forest Service firefighters pounced on a one acre wildfire in thick brush and timber at 46768 266th Street west in the Three Points Area of Northern Los Angeles County. The fire which was possibly started by a man clearing weeds came dangerously close to becoming another major forest fire. The wildfire which threatened the Angeles Forest brought an augmented response of both County and Federal firefighters.

The first arriving heli-shot crew from Fire Camp 9 at Los Pinetos worked feverishly to stop the flames from advancing up a steep hillside on the south eastern edge of the fire in 98 degree weather and in very dry vegetation. After dropping off the heli-shots, County Helicopter 19 went to work dropping thousands of gallons of water to help slow the rate of spread until additional ground resources could arrive.

The fire was held in check at approximately one acre but could have been much worse if the local winds had been stronger. The fire was reported at 11:43 am and quickly ran up the steep hillside in tinder dry fuels. This area is popular for motorcyclists who ride Pine Canyon Road and patrons who hike the Pacific Crest Trail.
