• Holiday Express Gift Shop is open during lunch recess at El Tejon School, where students may purchase gifts for their family, friends and teachers for just $1–5. The shop is a project of the PTSO and is open lunchtime weekdays, through Tuesday, Dec. 17 in Room 6.

• All 6th through 8th graders are invited to the ‘Winter Wonderland’ winter formal dance at El Tejon School, 5:30–8:30 p.m. (4337 Lebec Road, Lebec, in the gym). Tickets for this fun event with food, music, a DJ and photo opps are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and include a main dish and a drink. Additional food and drink will be available for purchase. Dress code is semi-formal, and remember to wear your dancing shoes!

Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019

• Saturday School is fun for students and great for school funding Saturday School is from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at FMHS, for all 4th–12th grade students in El Tejon Unified School District, and at Frazier Park School for K–4th graders. Lots of cool and interesting activities are planned for fun, learning and enrichment. See page 7 of the print edition for more information.

• Wreaths Across America Day is observed at Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin). The ceremony begins at 9 a.m., and family members are welcome to place wreaths on grave sites of loved ones beginning at 7:30 a.m., where Young Marines and Civil Air Patrol, along with other volunteer groups, will be in attendance to assist families.

• The 9th annual ‘Christmas in the Village’ parade and variety show promises fun, food, face painting and cheer in Pine Mountain Village. Arrive at 11:00 a.m. for the parade, which starts at 11:30 a.m. behind the general store, followed by Santa and live entertainment at the village gazebo. Back by popular demand is the for-children-only ‘One Stop Kids Shop’ where all gifts are just 25 cents.

• An author and musical event with The Boles Brothers at Adventure Ink Bookstore is 2 p.m. (16218 Mil Potrero Highway, #101, facing the road, one building west of The Perch).

• A community meeting for understanding the available research for defining and preserving healthy forests is 3 p.m. at Frazier Park Library. The meeting is presented by Los Padres ForestWatch, and hosted by Mountain Neighbors.

* An Ugly Sweater Contest is 7:30 p.m. at the PMC Condor Lounge. There will be a $25 cash prize for the ugliest one. With live music by Bandit going 7–11 p.m., it’s sure to be an entertaining evening for your eyes and your ears!

• Are you caring for an Alzheimer’s patient? Find understanding, company and helpful ideas at the Support for Family Caregivers support group, 10:30–11:30 a.m. at the Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, #102, Frazier Park). This monthly meeting is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Support Services. You are warmly welcomed to stop in and join us. • A U.S. Forest Service Community Meeting is 6 p.m. at Mt. Pinos District Office (Chuchupate Ranger Station, 34580 Lockwood Valley Road, Frazier Park). Intended to include folks who were unable to attend the November meeting, it will again cover the newly planned Mt. Pinos Forest Health Project. All are invited to “discuss and explore options for improving forest health and resiliency.” See story on page 2 of the print edition.

• ‘Artflix at Artworks’ will screen Woman in Gold at 6:30 p.m. at the gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane, Pine Mountain Village). Starring Helen Mirren, it is the true story of an Austrian woman seeking to reclaim family possessions seized by the Nazis—including Gustav Klimt’s famously gilded portrait of Maria’s beloved aunt. The screening is free; refreshments are available for a $3 donation.

•5:30 p.m. Film screening: The Story of Snow White:: This short documentary is about the making of Disney’s original Snow White. Frazier Park’s Bradley Boatman was a cameraman on this delightful film and he will be here to answer questions!

• Friday, Dec. 20 is the last day of school for El Tejon Unified, Gorman Elementary and Peak to Peak Mountain Charter Schools. School resumes after winter break on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

• South Kern Christian Church’s Christmas Concert ‘The Songs of Christmas’ is Friday, Dec. 20, 6 p.m. Admission is free, so come join the merriment. The church is located at 3224 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park. See ad on page 10 of the print edition.

• The ‘Stash and Carry’ Arts and Crafts show at Artworks Community Gallery is open Friday, Dec. 20, 12–8 p.m. Find unique, artsy gifts Tuesdays (except 12/24), Fridays and weekends through December 29 (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMV); for hours visit www.artworks.space/now-showing.

• In the Wings Studio of Dance presents its holiday show, ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas,’ Saturday, Dec. 21, 4 p.m. at Frazier Mountain High School. Presale tickets (from In the Wings, 3524 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park) are $8 for children 12 and under and $10 for general admission; at the door they are $10 and $12.

• Resident Permits Are Going Fast! Ease the stress of winter driving. Get your Winter Resident Permit so when CHP blocks snow visitors with chain checks, you can be waved through. Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce prints these, available for $5 at several Frazier Park and Pine Mountain Village locations (see hotlink at www.MountainEnterprise.com for a current list). Purchasers must bring proof of residence.
