LEBEC (Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, 9:30 a.m.)—The California Department of Public Health issued an "all clear" notice to the Lebec County Water District and its customers at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4. The bacteria tests of the water came back clear, which means the precautionary ‘boil water’ order has been lifted. A break in a distribution system line yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 3 required repair and the preventive ‘boil water’ notice until the laboratory tests were complete.

CUSTOMERS IN THE LEBEC ZONE
OF THE LEBEC COUNTY WATER DISTRICT
On August 2, 2010, you were notified to boil the tap water supplied by the
Lebec County Water District or use bottled water for drinking or cooking
purposes. The boil water order was issued since a If-joint on a 6-inch water
main line that brings water to the distribution system split apart in the Lebec
Zone, resulting in disruption of service to several customers in the Lebec
Zone. We had to shut down the line completely to replace a 4- foot section
of the waterline. While the line was being repaired, some customers in the
Lebec Zone, which include Lebec Road, South Drive, North Drive,
Haberkern Drive, and one house on Toyon Drive were without water from
evening hours of August 2,2010 to early hours of August 3, 2010.
The line was repaired on August 3,2010, and the affected area was
disinfected and flushed. After placing the line in service and restoring the
normal pressure in the Lebec Zone, two (2) bacteriological samples were
collected on August 3, 2010, from the affected area. Both samples collected
on August 3,2010, have tested negative for total coliform bacteria. The
Lebec County Water District, in conjunction with the California
Department of Public Health, has determined that your tap water is now
considered safe to drink. It is no longer necessary to boil the tap water
or consume bottled water.

LEBEC (August 4, 2010, 6:30 a.m.)—President of the Lebec County Water District Board Darren Hager said Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. that damage to the LCWD system has been repaired and that water service has been restored to all customers. The district is awaiting the results of lab tests to issue an all-clear regarding precautionary boiling of water for cooking and drinking. As soon as the all-clear is issued, we will post it here.

Today, August 2, 2010, a U-joint on a 6-inch water main line that brings water to the distribution system split apart in the Lebec Zone. We had to shut down the line completely to replace a 4-foot section of the waterline. The affected areas include Lebec Road, South Drive, North Drive, Haberkern Drive, and Toyon Drive.
Customers in the Lebec Zone have been without water since approximately 5 pm this evening. We expect to have the line repaired today, August 2, 2010, within 2-3 hours. Once repairs have been completed, all customers in Lebec Zone should have water with adequate pressure.
Loss of pressure and water outage for an extended period of time to the Lebec Zone distribution system may have caused possible contamination of the water supply by potentially harmful microorganisms. After completion of this work, our certified distribution operator will be disinfecting the distribution system. We are collecting special bacteriological quality samples after flushing to verify the bacteriological quality of the water being supplied by Lebec County Water District. However, this alone is not adequate to protect public health.
Therefore, the California Department of Public Health in conjunction with the Lebec County Water System are advising the customers of Lebec Zone that are served by Lebec CWD to boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution.
All tap water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled rapidly for at least 1 minute. This is the preferred method to assure that the water is safe to drink. You will be notified when it is no longer necessary to boil your drinking water. Upon return of water service, if your water looks cloudy or dirty, you should flush the line until the water appears clear and the water quality returns to normal. Do not be alarmed if you notice a chlorine taste or smell in your water since chlorine is used to disinfect the lines after leaks and/or water outages occur.
