Editorial: A Stealth Election for Lebec County Water Board?

August 9 is the deadline to sign up to run for two opening seats

As we were going to press today we were alerted to the fact that the deadline is next Friday, Aug. 9 for those who might wish to be candidates for two seats opening on the Lebec County Water District (LCWD) Board.

We are surprised that there was no mention of the upcoming deadline for candidates at the July board meeting of the LCWD. It is vital that interested members of the public be informed.

Those who would like to assist in moving the district forward might be interested in the opportunity to run for a position. The two seats expiring are those of Julie McWhorter and Tony Venegas, who was appointed.

Candidates need to be registered voters living in the district, and they must file a Declaration of Candidacy in person by Friday, Aug. 9.
