U14 Legends vs Castaic Ninos Cabillitos
By Tonya Zorich

Chilly described the morning as the Legends (coached by Tom Farrar, sponsored by Mike’s Pizza) faced Castaic’s Ninos Cabillitos.  Things quickly warmed up first quarter for the Legends on the field as Justin Geike put in two and Matthew Mendoza one.  Castaic rallied in the second quarter with three of their own to make a tie at the half.  Second half Legends dominated the field with excellent team work, frustrating the Cabillitos.  Legend Elena Brennan from the midfield set up two beautiful plays allowing Justin Geike to score two more earning himself a hat trick. Castiac got one past Legend defense.  Fourth quarter found Legend keeper Orion Zorich taking a beating as the Cabillitos tried unsuccessfully to score.  Legend Tyler Geike scored two from perfect crosses from his brother Justin to end the game 7-4 Legends.

U-10 Hammerheads vs. Rebels, Firecrackers
By Ronni Wilde

The Hammerheads U-10 soccer team, coached by Paul Heisig and Danyl Rice and sponsored by the Bear Claw Bakery, faced a double-header Saturday, squaring off first against the Rebels, coached by Matthew and Crystal Vivarito and sponsored by Caveretta’s Italian Deli.

On a very cold and breezy morning, the Hammerheads soldiered through beautifully, demonstrating excellent teamwork and dramatic improvement over the course of the season, which ends next week. Though they were unable to beat the Rebels, goalies Kyle Cass and Cheyane Robinson played strong defensive games, while teammates Shane McGinnis, Karlee Rice, Julianne and Keely Meyers, Aden Wiebers and Gabriel Wilde worked hard dribbling, passing and kicking the ball.

Game two of the day was against the Firecrackers, coached by Teresa Green and Anthony Andrews. Again, the team showed tremendous improvement and effort, and Derek Heisig scored the day’s only goal during the exciting second quarter. Goalies Cheyane Robinson, Karlee Rice and Aden Wiebers worked hard at defending, however, the Firecrackers were on fire, and the Hammerheads could not hold them back.

U-12 Hurricanes vs. Magma
By Catherine Hallmark

Fans on both sidelines called it one of the most exciting games of the season when the The U12 Hurricanes (coached by Deb Lein and sponsored by Dr. Porazik Dentistry) faced the Maroon Magma (coached by Jeff Neely and Bill Shillig, no sponsor) on Nov. 7 in a game that ended in a 5-5 tie.  The Magma  have been a consistently strong team in the U12 division and took the early lead with a first quarter goal off a penalty kick, but the Hurricanes responded quickly with a goal by Lily Hallmark.  The Magama came back strong with 2nd quarter goals by Joshua Ausherman and Lexi Durst, followed by a goal from Elias Masud of the Hurricanes for a 3-2 Magma lead at halftime.  The Hurricanes stormed back in the 3rd quarter with two-break away goals by Masud and a corner kick goal by Hunter Lannom for a temporary 5-3 lead.  Joshua Ausherman of the Magma kept control of ball and successfully moved it past the Hurricane defense numerous times in the fourth quarter with passes to his teammates producing 2 more Magma goals.

U-10 Electric Eels vs. Rebels
By Catherine Hallmark

The U10 Rebels (coached by Matt and Crystal Vivirito sponsored by Caveretta’s Itlian Deli) faced the Electric Eels (coached by Bobby and Cheryl Hirons) in a fiercely competitive game by two well matched teams.  The Rebel forwards Sedona Vivirito, Michael Stegeman and Dustin Gorman quickly took charge of the game with fantastic speed to outrun the Eel defense and produce 3 goals in the first half, vs. one Eel goal by Seth Carroll after a breakaway down the field.  Dustin Gorman scored two second half goals for the Rebels and Carroll scored again for the Eels for a final score Rebels 5 – Eels 2.  It was a fast paced game with great passing and team work by both teams.
