Community Reading Project coaches needed for schools

Last year there was a strong response from adults who came one hour a week to listen to individual second grade children read to them.

“One hour a week is all it takes to help four children become successful readers,” said Teresa Twisselman, coordinator. Progress in reading skills often jumps dramatically as children gain confidence at a critical moment in their development.

Training will be held in early September for the local Community Reading Project coaches. Call 661.636.4645 to volunteer. Project costs are funded by United Way of Kern County. There is no cost to volunteers. —PH
