Fires burning in the Mountain Community area

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at 1:40 p.m.)—There are several fires burning in areas surrounding the Mountain Communities, which began on Wednesday, Sept. 9 during thunderstorms.

According to Los Padres National Forest Wildland Firefighting Division Chief John Abell, two fires are burning near the Hardluck/Piru Creek area. One is 3.5 acres and the other is 5 acres. These two are in steep terrain and are in a remote area.

On Frazier Mountain a lightning strike ignited one tree.

In Apache Canyon (near Hwy 33) a single tree was ignited by a lightning strike and has burned some vegetation on the ground. Abell said the rate of spread of all of these fires has been stopped. There are no closures at this time and no evacuations, Abell said.

“They’re manageable, it’s just very time consuming with the remote locations,” he said.
